GoDaddy Data Breach: Hacker Gain Customer Hosting Accounts Credentials

GoDaddy, the world largest domain registrar and hosting provider announced a data breach which impact web hosting accounts credentials. The company notified unauthorized party access to their web hosting credentials used to connect via SSH. GoDaddy found the incident took place on October 19, 2019 was discovered on April 23,2020.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The platform is saying no files has been altered.
  • GoGaddy says 28,000 accounts are compromised.
  • GoDaddy is going to provide one free malware-scanning software
  • They are still advising customers to audit their accounts for change.


GoDaddy has disclosed a data breach impact web hosting credentials. with more than 19 million customers, 77 million domains managed, and millions of websites, hosted most everyone has heard of GoDaddy. According to Bleeping Computer, which broke the news yesterday evening, an as yet unknown number of customers have been informed that their web hosting accounts credentials had been compromised.

The conformation about the Data breach, is an email signed by the GoDaddy CISO and vice-president of engineering, Demetrius Comes, revealed that the security incident in question came to light after suspicious activity was recently identified on some GoDaddy servers. The breach itself appears to have occurred on October 19,2019 according to the state of California Department of Justice, with  which the disclosure notification email sample was field.

However, the investigation into this incident is far from over. While hacker have blocked them from their system the email said it also stated that GoDaddy is continuing to determine any potential impact across its environment. Information is scarce, at this stage, beyond what I've already detailed.I have reached out of GoDaddy with regards to how many accounts were affected and will update this article once I have an official response.  

GoDaddy apologize for any inconvenience this may caused . They have already taken and will continue to take measure to enhance our security in lights of this incident, Comes added. To offset the incident, GoDaddy will be offering on year of website Security Deluxe and Express malware Removal to its affected customers at no cost.
